St Crispins house was originally an overflow building for Her Majesty's Stationery Office- Norwich. In the late nineties the building was sold off and split up into separate offices and a glass pyramid roof was built over the atrium and a cafe created there. This new enclosure was a warm space and allowed the cultivation of exotic atrium garden top grow.
In the state we found it the irrigation system had been left switched onin the year or so the offices surrounding it had been derelict. The hand of the invisible gardener kept working and although no one was tending the plants the garden broke out of its polite constraints and became wild. The concrete shell that had defined the enclosure was now being infiltrated by the once captive greenery, changing from a space to eat a packed lunch into somewhere much darker much wilder and a place impossible to enter; maybe nature’s own self defence.
